Project Overview
MHK Architecture is proud to highlight its work on the redevelopment of 1001 & 1005 Estero Boulevard, a mixed use commercial project located at the intersection of Old San Carlos Boulevard and Estero Boulevard in the heart of Times Square on Fort Myers Beach.
Positioned just steps from the Fort Myers Beach Pier, the site historically housed two well loved local establishments, Plaka Restaurant and Pete’s Time Out. Following the destruction caused by Hurricane Ian and subsequent storms, the original structures were removed, creating an opportunity to reimagine the site as part of the broader revitalization of Times Square.
The new development introduces a three-story, mixed-use building designed to engage the public from street level to rooftop, reinforcing the pedestrian first character that defines this vibrant district. The ground floor incorporates functional storage spaces for local vendor kiosks, helping restore the lively street market atmosphere long associated with Times Square. Above, the second floor will provide retail space overlooking the activity along Old San Carlos Boulevard, while the upper level will feature a restaurant and bar with indoor and outdoor seating.
Crowning the building is a rooftop dining and gathering space oriented toward views of the Gulf of Mexico and the Fort Myers Beach Pier, creating a dynamic destination for both visitors and residents. The design also incorporates pedestrian focused amenities, including public shade and water stations, ensuring comfort for beachgoers and those exploring the surrounding district.
A large-scale mural designed by a local Fort Myers Beach artist will activate the building’s western façade, transforming the structure into a cultural landmark that celebrates the community’s creative spirit.
With its pedestrian oriented design, layered program, and public amenities, the redevelopment of 1001 & 1005 Estero Boulevard is envisioned as a catalyst for the continued restoration of Times Square, supporting the area’s economic vitality while honoring the unique character and energy that define Fort Myers Beach.
