WE HELP YOU WIN

With our approach, we have a proven track record of helping our partners win bids and projects.

Approach

Scale at Speed

We’ve been told “Nobody comes out of the gate like MHK.” We take great pride in that because we know how important it is to hit the ground running. The first few weeks of design work on a project can mean the difference between winning or losing. We prefer to win.

Boutique Detail

We take a boutique approach to all our projects, translating our vast luxury residential experience into elevating our commercial work into truly human-centered design. Not only is this part of the expertise we bring, we believe it helps ensure the long-term success of the projects by creating better spaces for the business and people who use them.

Show. Don’t Tell.

A good idea isn’t good if it stays in your mind or on the boards. That’s why we’ve always invested time, energy, and resources into creating high-quality renderings early in the process so we can effectively cast a vision and make it obvious to the decision-makers why our designs should be approved and, ultimately, built.

PROCESS

Phase 1.

Feasibility Study / Land Analysis

Initial evaluation of the parcel in question and review of the zoning of the property, what is allowed by right, and evaluation of the density that could occur on the property in providing a client initial proforma criteria.

Phase 2.

Concept Design / Schematic Design

Based on the outcome of the previous phase, a conceptual design is evolved with more exactness which includes the floor plans, building design, site plan, and building elements to further relay the design intent with more exactness.

Phase 3.

Entitlement

As most projects require jurisdictional approvals, during this phase the architect takes the project through all of the various review boards, city councils, and other reviewing authorities having jurisdiction at a high level to perpetuate the project.

Phase 4.

Design Development

Design is further developed towards construction, consultants involved at this point, and higher level of detail is added to the drawings and more project specifics.

Phase 5.

Construction Drawings

Documentation of all of the decision made prior in working towards full constructable drawings by all parties involved on the project.

Phase 6.

Construction Administration

Project is followed through the course of construction and monitored by the architect to ensure exactness in the construction of the project.

CULTURE

Empowering

We thrive on seeing people succeed; that’s true for our clients, our vendors, and in a special way for our team. We think a crucial part of professional success is to be empowered to do the work you want to do. That means helping our team members find what they are truly interested in, then helping them grow and learn in that area. That takes some work, but we’re big on people around here, so it’s worth the effort.

Opportunity

Empowerment is nothing if you don’t have the opportunities to pursue your passions, learn new skills, and hone your craft. There is great satisfaction in creating a culture where talent, curiosity, and initiative are rewarded. Whether it is a new designer just starting out or the seasoned architect who is ready to lead their own team or even studio, we’re always looking for opportunities to help them grow and what’s on the horizon for them in their career.

Ownership

The result of this approach is a greater feeling of ownership for everyone at MHK. Of course, this means we have to find people willing to take that on, to care deeply about their work and be proud of what they do. It means finding people who are willing to be stretched and learn, because our designers are involved in every phase our projects. Ultimately, we believe that this approach gives people greater joy in their work, and that means they do better work. Simple, right? But hard to do. That is the creative culture we’ve always sought to create and that is the creative culture that drives us forward.
